A-LEVEL MATHEMATICS SINCE 1990

  The following figures are from annual tables published by 
  the "Independent".  Alex probably knows a more official 
  source.  They show the dramatic swings in the number of
  entries (down, then up) and in the proportion awarded
  grade A (up, but fairly stable since 2006).  The step
  change in 2002 coincided with the introduction of AS

   (FM) is the number of Further Maths entries, for which
   separate figures have only been given since 2003.  It is 
   included in the previous column.  

   The percentage of A grades is for the total, including 
   Further Maths (and including A* since 2010).  The separate

     FM:     A* 27.5,  A 30.2

   No other major subject had an A* percentage above 14.2.
