Do you ever get pissed off at the fact you don't own a particle accelerator? I did.
This contraption took a week or so of on/off building, and is constructed of a soilpipe, an old tumble-drier motor, some conveyer offcuts, two salad bowls and a load of other random stuff. Total cost, about £20, if that.
Unlike most VDGs, which have low-capacitance toploads, this thing has quite a kick to it, because there's quite a lot of metal in the topload. Unfortunately I can't find any pictures of it running, but it lights CFLs quite nicely, and screws up TV reception for people in adjacent houses. Sorry Ofcom.
Alas, for all good things must come to an end, and when I left home for uni it had to be dismantled. It's currently sealed (to guard against static-destroying moisture) in plastic bags, waiting for that day when I want to be electrocuted again.
